Yorkshire artist's work to be presented to Sheikh Maktoum
GIFTED ARTIST:
Jane Lazenby has painted 1989 Derby winner Nashwan as a gift for Sheikh Maktoum.

By Jill Armstrong
BARNSLEY artist Jane Lazenby has been busy putting the finishing touches to a painting that is to be presented to Sheikh Hamdam Bin Rashid Al Maktoum in Dubai in two weeks.
The portrait of Sheikh Maktoum's 1989 Derby winner, Nashwan, will be given to him at the opening of the International Horse Trade Fair and World Arabian Showing Championships on March 18.
Jane was thrilled to be asked to paint the picture and would love to have been able to travel to Dubai for the occasion.
However, she did not feel she could make the journey as she needs to be at home to look after her three-year-old daughter. "My dream would be to meet His Royal Highness when he is in this country," said Jane.
The commission came about through Olympic Horse Feeds. The company provides supplements to cater for the growing demands of performance animals – horses and camels – and is opening a new outlet in Dubai.
The company's managing director Atila Beyaz commissioned two portraits from Jane in 2007 of his own showjumper, Matchbox and his chestnut companion, Charlie.
Several of Jane's paintings will be on show, and for sale, on the Olympic Horse Feeds stand at the trade fair and Atila Beyaz asked Jane to do a special portrait as a gift for Sheikh Maktoum. This will be presented to him at the televised opening of the event.
Jane has been painting horses for 18 years and is an associate member of the Society of Equine Artists. She has judged and competed in dressage with her home bred mare, Iszara.
"I have exhibited my other work internationally but never my equestrian paintings, so it is fabulous to have this opportunity," said Jane
